Madama Butterfly is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini. The original version of the opera, in two acts, had its premiere on 17 February 1904 at Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly” tells the story of a young Japanese girl named Cio-Cio San – Japanese word for “butterfly” – marrying and getting dumped by an American naval officer named Pinkerton. The scent of blooming Sakura is spreading all over Cio-Cio-San, perfumed with sweet Verbena she is waiting for the return of the man she loves.
